Wahconah School Counselor Mission

The mission of the Wahconah Regional High School Counseling Department is to provide a structured comprehensive and developmental program in order to assist students in their personal, academic and career development. In partnership with other educators, parents or guardians, and the community, school counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. Our Counseling program is designed to ensure that all students at Wahconah have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute as productive members of society.

The WRHS School Counseling Department will always offer students a friendly hello and a face of reassurance when needed. It is a place to check in, or check out for a moment. Wahconah's College and Career Center is a network of support for students' academic, social, personal and career successes.

Minimum Admissions Standards
The state universities and UMass campuses set minimum admissions standards to:

  • Highlight the importance of completing a rigorous high school program (such as MassCore).
  • Ensure students are prepared for college-level work.
  • Provide consistency in admissions across campuses.
Meeting these standards does not guarantee admission—colleges also consider many other factors and may set additional requirements. Students should check directly with each admissions office for specific details.

Note: These standards do not apply to community colleges, which have open admissions policies.

Adopted by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education in 2007 and amended in 2018, MassCore is a state-recommended program of study intended to align high school coursework with college and workforce expectations.
The program of studies includes the successful completion of four units of English, four units of mathematics, three units of a lab-based science, three units of history, two units of the same world language, one unit of the arts, and five additional "core" courses. A computer science course that includes rigorous mathematical or scientific concepts and aligns with the 2016 Digital Literacy and Computer Science Framework can substitute for either a mathematics course or a laboratory science course.
